MIDDLE SCHOOL AND TEEN LIBRARIAN

Position Description: Would you like to work in an innovative, forward-looking library where customer service is a priority? If you have a passion for books, technology and keeping older children involved with the library, then this is the job for you. Located next door to a middle school, the River Forest Public Library serves a large population of 10 to 14 year olds on a daily basis and we program primarily to this age group. We strive to make the library a welcoming place for patrons of all ages and the ideal candidate will be a role model of proactive customer service. Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work in a creative, collaborative environment is a must.

The Middle School and Teen Librarian will:
Manage and maintain the Middle School and Teen print and digital collections.
Develop and implement programming for children ages 10-14, their families’, and the community.
Provide reference and readers’ advisory services at the Adult and Teen Services desk.
Serve as Webmaster for the library’s website under direction of Virtual Services Manager in order to enhance user interface experience.
Provide reference and readers’ advisory at the Adult and Teen Services Desk.
Actively promote a lifelong love of reading, learning and libraries throughout the community.
Other duties as assigned.

Full time: 37.5 hours/week (exempt); includes nights and weekends as scheduled.

Requirements: MLS from an ALA accredited school. At least three years of experience working with children ages 10-14, and at least one year in a library setting. Some experience or related coursework with website development is required. A valid driver’s license and a car.

Salary information: $35,887 to $38,500.

CHILDREN’S SERVICES LIBRARIAN

Position Description: River Forest Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic Children’s Services Librarian to join our Children’s Services Department, serving kids from birth through 4th grade and their families. The ideal candidate has genuine enthusiasm for working with children in a library setting and a passion for children’s literature. Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work in a creative, collaborative environment is a must.

The Children’s Services Librarian will assist the Manager of Children’s Services with:
Developing and implementing a wide range of programs for children (birth through 4th grade)
Managing and maintaining Children’s print and digital collections
Promoting Children’s programs, services, and collections through community outreach
Providing reference and readers’ advisory services in the Children’s Room
Regular and ongoing administrative tasks within the Department

Full time: 37.5 hours/week (exempt); includes nights and weekends as scheduled

Requirements: MLS from an ALA accredited school; At least three years of experience working with children and their families, and at least one year in a library setting; A valid driver’s license and a car

Salary information: $35,887-$38,500 based on experience; includes full benefits package.
