Child Safety Policy
The River Forest Public Library welcomes the use of its facilities and services by all children. However, the Library is a public building, and as such, is not a safe place to leave a child unattended. The Library cannot assume responsibility for the safety of unattended children.
Therefore, children under the age of ten (10) years must not be left unattended in the Library, and they must be under the authority of and accompanied by a parent or authorized caregiver age 12 or older. If children are attending programs in which parent attendance is not required, the parent/caregiver must remain in the building.
Children ten (10) years of age or older may use the Library unattended provided they adhere to the Patron Code of Conduct. However, the parent or caregiver is responsible for the behavior of his/her child while the child is in the Library. It is the responsibility of the parent or caregiver to know the hours of the Library and to pick up his/her child before the Library closes.
The Board of Library Trustees of the River Forest Public Library authorizes Library management to establish and implement procedures to address issues of unattended children in the Library.
