Internet Policy
All users of on-line computer systems or networks accessible through the River Forest Public Library’s computers, including the Internet, World Wide Web, and any other on-line services, are advised that suchcomputers and systems are made available to the Library and its patrons exclusively for educational and informational purposes.
Users of the Library’s computers are further advised that the River Forest Public Library does not control, nor can it be responsible for the contents of these systems, networks and services and that all of the on-line information, graphics and messages accessible through the Library’s computers originate outside of the Library.
It is not technically feasible to prevent users from accessing systems, networks and services which may or do contain material, messages or graphics considered offensive to a user, staff member, or inappropriate for minors. Accordingly, users and staff members should be aware that they might encounter messages, materials or graphics that they find offensive. This policy has been put into place to monitor and address such occurrences.
Use of the Library’s computers must be for legal, acceptable uses. Unacceptable uses include, but are not limited to:
Harassment of others;
Defamation of others;
Disruption or unauthorized monitoring of electronic communications;
Unauthorized copying of copyright-protected material;
Violation of licensing and payment agreements with database providers;
Destruction or damage to equipment, software or data;
Violation of system security;
Overuse of equipment that results in denying access to others;
Activities in violation of local, state or federal laws, or ordinances;
Deliberately accessing obscene materials.
Persons who use the Library’s computers for unacceptable uses may lose the privilege of using all Library facilities including access to its computer systems.
