Monday, March 15th, 7 p.m.
Join Dominican University staff members Dan Bulow, Director of Building and Grounds, and Dawn Morse, project manager, as they talk about the renewed use of an old 60,000 gallon cistern on campus. The cistern will help to save the Village of River Forest 4-6 million gallons of water each year.

Thursday, March 18th, 7 p.m.
FRESH Movie Screening
FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are reinventing our food system. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision of our food and our planet’s future. FRESH connects audiences not with facts and figures or apocalyptic policy analysis, but with personal stories of change.

Saturday, March 20th, 10-11:30 a.m.
“Green Your Property” Panel!
Our panel of experts (including a local architect, weatherization contractor, ecological landscape designer/installer, and green home supply store owner) will offer helpful strategies for “greening” your home and property. Members of the panel are experienced with energy upgrades and additions to historic homes, new construction, renewable energy, composting, rain harvesting, and can recommend a host of materials and products for your home. We will leave plenty of time for Q & A!

Tuesday, March 23rd, 7 p.m.
Concordia professor of biology, Rebecca Trueman, will present “Let’s not pass the tipping point: a short science lesson and uncommon changes to reduce your carbon footprint.” This interactive session will illuminate current science, the dangers of “passing the tipping point” and what you can do to reduce radiation trapping gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Bring your comments and questions.

Saturday, March 27th, 1 p.m.
Come to Something Old to Something New: Special Creations by You, presented by Diane Sapienza. Learn how to re-purpose old doilies, plates, jewelry and more for your own contribution to going green.

All programs are FREE and open to the public. To register for any of these programs, give the library a call at 708-366-5205.

What is your library already doing to be environmentally responsible?
Libraries have always been green! When you borrow and return something from our wealth of materials it gets reused again and again. Library books can be read and enjoyed without cluttering up your shelves or the landfills. Stop by to read our magazines and newspapers, and prevent multiple copies from ending up in the trash. Or check out a Kindle, iPod or Sony Reader at the library and read or listen to library books digitally.

Here are some additional ways we can help you do your part:
The library offers canvas bags for checkout to help you carry your books- no more plastic bags.
Save paper by registering your email with the library for updates on your account, and for our monthly events newsletter.
Renew your materials online or over the phone, and pay fines online to save gas and energy. For more information on programs for Adults, visit the Programs for Adults page of our website.
