Programs for Children
The River Forest Public Library offers targeted programs to meet community needs and interests as identified in our Strategic Plan. In planning and carrying out its sponsored programs, the Library aspires to meet the standards set forth in the Library Bill of Rights. The Library also recognizes that the resources available for the sponsorship of programs are limited and the selection, planning and implementation of Library sponsored programs ultimately rests in the discretion of the Library’s professional staff.
The library reserves the right to restrict program attendance. Programs may be cancelled, in advance or the day of, if minimum attendance is not met or due to unforeseeable circumstances.
Tuesday, 7/15, 2-3:30 PM, Summer of Numbers, Grades 3-5
Math + Library = Fun! Subtract yourself from the hot summer sun and multiply your learning with fun math games and activities. Registration is required.
Wednesday, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 1:30-3:30 PM, Exploration Stations, Ages 3-10
Explore and investigate fun science-based activities as you travel through different stations each week. This program will be held outside, weather permitting. Parent or caregiver must assist children under age 6.
Thursday, 7/17, 7/24, 7/31, 4-5:30 PM, Minecraft Club, entering Grades 4-7
Calling all Minecraft builders, warriors, and fans! Head to the library every Thursday this summer to meet up with friends and learn Minecraft tips, tricks, and mods, have snacks, and play together on shared challenges, PvP maps, and more! **Registration required via the calendar**
Monday, 7/21, 7/28, 1:30-3:30 PM, Art Activities , Ages 3-10
Drop in for a fun, new, art project or craft every week! All materials will be provided. Parent or caregiver must assist children under age 6.
Thursday, 7/24, 2-3 PM, Ballet Story Time, Ages 4-6
Dance over to the Library for fun ballet stories and activities. Registration is required.
Thursday, 7/31, 6:30 PM, Musical Celebration with Jeanie B!, All Ages
Join us in our front garden as we celebrate the end of Summer Reading with a live concert! Jeanie B!’s upbeat shows are jammed-packed with dancing, sing-a-longs, and rockin’ music that kids and parents both love. This is an all ages, family-friendly, musical event you won’t want to miss.
8/1-8/31, DIY, Math Games
Brush up on your skills with fun and challenging math games in the Children’s Room.
Monday, 8/4, 7 PM, Pajama Night, Independent Readers Grades K-4
Party in your pajamas! Wear your PJs, bring your pillow and book (or get one at the Library), and hang out in the Children’s Room while you eat cookies and read.
Wednesday, 8/20, 12:30-2:30, Messy Art Day, 2-10 years
Drop in and make fun (and messy) artistic creations at the Library. This program will be held outside weather permitting. For ages 2-10 with parent/caregiver.
Saturday, 8/23, 1:30-4 PM, Lego Display Show and Movie, 4-10 years
Bring your favorite Lego creation to the Library and see what other kids have designed in our Lego Display Show. Stay to watch an “awesome” movie with your fellow Lego fans. For ages 4-10.
Thursday, 8/28, 10 AM, Movers and Shakers, Birth-6 years
Join My Gym’s Miss Debbie at the Library for fun movement activities using puppets, bubbles, and more! For kids birth-6 years old with parent/caregiver.
