Computer Classes

The purpose of teaching computer classes at the River Forest Public Library is to promote lifelong learning, equal access and enrichment through technology education, in support of the mission of the River Forest Public Library.

Registration is required for all computer classes. To sign up for a computer class please contact the library reference desk at 708-366-5205 ext. 316, or send an email to reference(@)riverforestlibrary.org.

Computer Class Descriptions

Computer Basics
Designed for anyone considering themselves a computer beginner, this class covers all the basics: using a mouse, getting around the Internet and using software. If you are starting at zero, or need more experience before taking our other classes, start here!

Intro to PowerPoint
Part 1: Learn how to use Microsoft PowerPoint as a tool to create professional looking presentations and slide shows using templates. Participants in this class should be familiar with Microsoft Word and be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse.

Part 2:Further your knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint by learning to create customized slide shows using slide masters and custom animation schemes. Participants in this should be familiar with Microsoft PowerPoint or have taken PowerPoint Part 1 previously.

Facebook for Grownups
Facebook isn’t just for kids! Learn the basics of navigating Facebook, the many uses of Facebook, and how to make social networking a part of your life. Participants in this class should have an email account and be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse.

Facebook Users Group
This is an hour-long informal session for those who already have Facebook accounts. Bring your questions and we’ll all explore Facebook together!

Excel Basics (Office 2007 version)
Microsoft Excel is a program used for creating spreadsheets. Come build your skills and boost your resume by learning how to create simple spreadsheets and equations. Participants in this class should be familiar with Microsoft Word and be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse.

Internet for Consumers
Just in time for the holidays, this class is designed to help you learn about free sources for consumer reviews and ratings on the web. Explore Consumer Reports online, and other helpful websites to aid in smart purchasing choices. Participants in this class should have some general Internet experience and be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse.

Internet for Book Lovers
If you love to read, the Internet can be a great resource for you. We’ll visit websites designed especially for book lovers in this fun class. Learn to find new books to read, explore book resources on the library website, and more. Participants in this class should have some general Internet experience and be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse.

Internet for Food Lovers
Love to cook? Looking for new recipes and ideas? In this class we will explore the Culinary Arts Collection database and other food related websites and online tools. Participants in this class should have some general Internet experience and be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse. Come hungry, leave with new recipes and ideas!
