Programs for Children

The River Forest Public Library offers targeted programs to meet community needs and interests as identified in our Strategic Plan. In planning and carrying out its sponsored programs, the Library aspires to meet the standards set forth in the Library Bill of Rights. The Library also recognizes that the resources available for the sponsorship of programs are limited and the selection, planning and implementation of Library sponsored programs ultimately rests in the discretion of the Library’s professional staff.

The library reserves the right to restrict program attendance. Programs may be cancelled, in advance or the day of, if minimum attendance is not met or due to unforeseeable circumstances.


Story Times

Tuesday, 9/1-9/15, 10-11 AM, Mother Goose Café, Birth-18 months

Join us for coffee, stories, and play. Stories begin at 10:20 AM. For kids birth-18 months with parent/caregiver.

Thursday, 9/3-9/17, 10 AM, Toddler Time, 18 months-3 years

Join us for stories, music, and movement. For kids 18 months-3 years with parent/caregiver.

Friday, 9/4-9/18, 9:30 AM, Family Story Time @ Whole Foods Market, Birth-6 years

Story time for kids ages birth-6 years with a parent/caregiver.**Note: program is held at Whole Foods Market River Forest, 7245 Lake Street, River Forest, IL 60305, 708-366-1045.**

Monday, 8/10, 6:30 PM, PJ Story Time, 2-7 Years

Wear your pajamas and bring a stuffed friend to our special evening story time program! For ages 2-7 years with parent/caregiver.



September Programs

9/1-30, DIY: Window Art, Children of All Ages

Decorate your windows. Supplies will be provided.

Saturday, 9/12, 3:30-5 PM, Minecraft Madness Grades 3-7

Calling all Minecraft builders, warriors, and fans! Head to RFPL for Minecraft-inspired activities, snacks, and to play together on shared challenges. Advanced registration required.

Monday, 9/14, 10 AM-4 PM, Grandparents’ Open House, Children of All Ages and Grandparents

Grandparents (and grandparent figures) are invited to stop by the Library between 10 AM and 4 PM with the special children in their lives to share stories, make a craft, and enjoy refreshments.

Tuesday, 9/15, 3:45-4:45 PM, Crafternoon, Grades K-4

Design your own t-shirt at this fun after school crafting program for elementary schoolers.

Wednesday, 9/23, 2-3:30 PM, Magic Tree House Party, Grades K-4

Dinosaurs, knights, and mummies, oh my! Travel like Jack and Annie in a Magic Tree House with games, activities, and snacks that celebrate this enduring book series. Registration Required.

Thursday, 9/24, 10-10:30 AM, Parachute Play, Ages 2-5

Join us for fun with parachutes! Bounce, wiggle, and have fun as you play with our favorite prop.

Saturday, 9/26, 2-3 PM or 3-4 PM, LEGO Club, Grades K-4

LEGO fans will be given a new LEGO building challenge each time we meet. LEGO bricks will be provided. Both sessions are the same, so please just sign up for one time slot. Advanced registration is required. For kids in grades K-4.

Monday, 9/28, 7 PM, Book Bonanza, Grades K-4

Learn about new books, play a fun game, and enjoy yummy snacks in the Children’s Room. For independent readers.
