Programs for Children

View the Online Library Program Calendar to find out more about upcoming events. You can view program descriptions, sort by audience and age, and sign up online for programs that require registration.

The River Forest Public Library offers targeted programs to meet community needs and interests as identified in our Strategic Plan. In planning and carrying out its sponsored programs, the Library aspires to meet the standards set forth in the Library Bill of Rights. The Library also recognizes that the resources available for the sponsorship of programs are limited and the selection, planning and implementation of Library sponsored programs ultimately rests in the discretion of the Library’s professional staff.

The library reserves the right to restrict program attendance. Programs may be cancelled, in advance or the day of, if minimum attendance is not met or due to unforeseeable circumstances.

Story Times

Tuesdays, 4/7-4/21, 10-11 AM, Mother Goose Café, Birth-18 months

Join us for coffee, stories, and play. Stories begin at 10:20 AM. For kids birth-18 months with parent/caregiver.

Thursdays, 4/9-4/23, 10 AM, Toddler Time, 18 months-3 years

Join us for stories, music, and movement. For kids 18 months-3 years with parent/caregiver.

Fridays, 4/10-4/24, 9:30 AM, Family Story Time @ Whole Foods Market, Birth-6 years

Story time for kids ages birth-6 with a parent/caregiver.**Note: program is held at Whole Foods Market River Forest, 7245 Lake Street, River Forest, IL 60305, 708-366-1045.**

Monday, 4/20, 6:30 PM, PJ Story Time, 2-7 Years

Wear your pajamas and bring a stuffed friend to our special evening story time program! For ages 2-7 years with parent/caregiver.

April Programs

Wednesday, 4/1, 10 AM-5 PM, Freestyle Crafts

We’ve got the craft supplies; you’ve got the talent. Get those creative juices flowing! Supplies will be provided.

Thursday, 4/2, 10 AM-5 PM, Build a Fort

Turn the Children’s Room into the fort of your dreams. Bring your own blankets and pillows or use what we have here to build a cozy hideaway.

Friday, 4/3, 1-3 PM, Spring Break Minecraft Madness, Grades 3-7

Calling all Minecraft builders, warriors, and fans! Head to the RFPL for Minecraft-inspired activities, snacks, and to play together on shared challenges. Space is limited. Registration is encouraged.

Monday, 4/6, 7 PM, Pajama Night, Independent Readers Grades K-4

Party in your pajamas! Wear your PJs, bring your pillow and book (or get one at the Library), and hang out in the Children’s Room while you eat cookies and read.

Friday, 4/10, 5:30-8:30, Librarypalooza, All Ages

Join RFPL for our biggest event of the year! We’ll have a magic show, a photo booth, balloon twisters, a dance floor for the kiddos, an after-hours DJ dance party for teens and more! We’ll also be serving up a free helping of ice cream. Don’t miss it.

Saturday, 4/18, SciFi Day

Celebrate your love of science fiction at RFPL!  We have out of this world programs planned throughout the day. There will be fun, sci-fi inspired drop-in activities all day long in the Children’s Room and special programs scheduled.

Friday, 4/24, 6 PM, Stuffed Animal Sleepover, Ages 2-6

Arrive at 6 PM for a short bedtime story with your stuffed pal. Leave your pal for some overnight fun at the library. Come back for a light breakfast at 9 AM on Saturday to see what the stuffed animals were up to during their slumber party.

Saturday, 4/25, LEGO Club, 2 PM, Grades K-5

LEGO fans are invited to register each month and join us for LEGO Club. Participants will be given a new LEGO building challenge each time we meet. LEGO bricks will be provided. Advanced registration is required.

Thursday, 4/30, 10 AM, Movers and Shakers, Birth-6 years

Join My Gym’s Miss Debbie at the Library for fun movement activities using puppets, bubbles, and more! For kids birth-6 years old with parent/caregiver.
