Board of Trustees River Forest Public Library Regular Board Meeting Minutes May 17, 2011 8:30pm Call to Order & Roll Call Prior to calling the meeting to order Joan Cusack, Margaret Horstman, and Mark Coe were celebrated for their years of service and Mary T. Small, Thomas Smedinghoff, and Claudette Zobel were sworn in as Trustees of the River Forest Public Library. Mary Coe and Margaret Horstman were present for the reading of the resolutions and then left the meeting. President Joan O’Connor called the regular meeting to order at 8:56 pm. The roll was taken. Present were Trustees Harley Beck, Alice Calabrese-Berry, Genie Halloran, Mary T. Small, Thomas Smedinghoff, and Claudette Zobel. Also present were Director Sophia Anastos and staff –member Joanna Bertucci. Visitors included Joe Huberty and Joan Cusack. Audience to Visitors, Trustee and Staff Comments - None New Business b. Resolutions - President O’Connor reads three resolutions granting Trustee Coe Trustee Emeritus status and granting Trustees Cusack and Horstman Trustee Emerita status. President O’Connor requests a motion to approve the resolutions. Trustee Calabrese-Berry moves to approve the resolutions and Trustee Smedinghoff seconds the motion. A roll call vote is taken. Ayes: Trustees Beck, Calabrese, Halloran, O’Connor, Small, Smedinghoff, and Zobel Nays: None a. Capital Reserve Study - Joe Huberty of Engberg Anderson presented his firm’s findings and results of the Building Envelope Study. The report is aligned with the findings of the Capital Reserves Study and points out that conditions on the roof and the windows require the most immediate attention. The next step is to identify the quality standards for the repairs and create incremental packages to fit the library’s budget. - After discussion of Mr. Huberty’s report, President O’Connor asks for a motion to approve $35,600.00 to Engberg Anderson to begin the construction documents, base drawing preparation, bidding, visits, and construction administration. Trustee Calabrese-Berry moves to approve the $35,600 and Trustee Beck seconds the motion. A roll call vote in taken. Ayes: Trustees Beck, Calabrese, Halloran, O’Connor, Small, Smedinghoff, and Zobel Nays: None Consent Agenda Discussion of the consent agenda occurs. President O’Connor asks for a motion to approve the consent agenda. Trustee Beck moves to approve the Warrant and Benefit List for the period of April 1, 2011- April 30, 2011 including checks numbered 651-652 and 10611-10703 for a total of $112,758.48 with the Minutes from the April 19th meeting. Trustee Zobel seconds the motion and a roll call vote is taken. Ayes: Trustees Beck, Calabrese, Halloran, O’Connor, Small, Smedinghoff, and Zobel Nays: None Communications - President O’Connor made a few announcements o The Friends of the Library Book Sale will be taking place at Roosevelt Middle School June 24th-26th. o The staff will be marching in the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30th. Trustees are invited to march with the staff. o Summer reading will begin on Friday, June 3rd. Trustees are invited to attend the kick-off party from 2:00-5:00 pm. o On June 21st there will be a Board orientation at 6:00 pm, followed by the regular June Board meeting at 7:30 pm. - Patron Suggestions o None Director’s Report - None Committee Reports a. Trustee Small moves to adjourn meeting, Trustee Smedinghoff seconds the motion. All are in favor and the motion passes unanimously. WHEREAS, in special recognition of distinguished service to The River Forest Public Library, the Board of Trustees of the River Forest Public Library wishes to acknowledge Mr. Mark Coe by appointing him Trustee Emeritus of the River Forest Public Library. WHEREAS, Mr. Coe served the library and the Village of River Forest as a steadfast and committed Library Trustee for 12 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Coe was named Trustee of the Year by the Metropolitan Library System in the year 2010; and WHEREAS, Mr. Coe played a founders role in inspiring and supporting the spirit of innovation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Coe and Kristen Coe generously hosted holiday parties at their house, growing the bonds of collegiality and trust that have been invaluable in building our team; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by The Board of Trustees of River Forest Public Library that it approve appointment of Mr. Mark Coe as Trustee Emeritus of River Forest Public Library. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Board herein extends its deepest appreciation to Mr. Coe for his dedication and service to The River Forest Public Library, and to the people of this village, state, and nation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be included in the permanent minutes of this Board and that copies be given to Mr. Coe, his wife Kristen, other members of his family, and to other appropriate Village of River Forest Officials. River Forest Public Library May 17, 2011 Emerita Resolution Approving the Appointment of Ms. Margaret Horstman, Distinguished Emerita Trustee of the River Forest Public Library, River Forest Illinois. WHEREAS, in special recognition of distinguished service to The River Forest Public Library, the Board of Trustees of the River Forest Public Library wishes to acknowledge Ms. Margaret Horstman by appointing her Trustee Emerita of the River Forest Public Library. WHEREAS, Ms. Horstman served the library and the Village of River Forest as a steadfast and committed Library Trustee for 10 years; and WHEREAS, Ms. Horstman initiated and fulfilled the 2011 process of Strategic Planning for the River Forest Library; and WHEREAS, Ms. Horstman, has led the initiative to landscape the River Forest Public Library; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by The Board of Trustees of River Forest Public Library that it approve appointment of Ms. Horstman as Trustee Emerita of River Forest Public Library. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Board herein extends its deepest appreciation to Ms. Horstman for her dedication and service to The River Forest Public Library, and to the people of this village, state, and nation. River Forest Public Library May 17, 2011 Emerita Resolution Approving the Appointment of Mrs.Joan Cusack, Distinguished Emerita Trustee of the River Forest Public Library, River Forest Illinois. WHEREAS, in special recognition of distinguished service to The River Forest Public Library, the Board of Trustees of the River Forest Public Library wishes to acknowledge Mrs.Joan Cusack by appointing her Trustee Emerita of the River Forest Public Library. WHEREAS, Mrs.Cusack served the library and the Village of River Forest as a steadfast and committed Library Trustee for 6 years; and WHEREAS, Mrs.Cusack’s work supported the successful 201o renovation of the Marion Lahey Children’s Library as well as core building improvements during her service on the Facility Committee; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Cusack’s creative ideas have seeded fundraising endeavors such as the 735 Club ; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by The Board of Trustees of River Forest Public Library that it approve appointment of Mrs. Cusack as Trustee Emerita of River Forest Public Library. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Board herein extends its deepest appreciation to Mrs. Cusack for her dedication and service to The River Forest Public Library, and to the people of this village, state, and nation.
